Like a trendy hygge in Copenhagen: Moxy Copenhagen Sydhavnen

When I arrived in Copenhagen, I wanted to try a hotel that was different from the usual. One that embodied the spirit of a bohemian city and hygge, one of the most defining elements of Danish culture. That’s how I found Moxy Copenhagen Sydhavnen, a trendy yet cosy place where Scandinavian design combines with a sense of warmth.

Moxy, as the new lifestyle brand of the Marriott hotel chain, targets young and young at heart travellers by immediately engaging them with a world of non-conformity, openness and creativity when they enter the hotel. At the heart of this fun space is the reception area, part of a casual design that is a classic bar counter where hotel guests are always invited for a free drink. Surrounding it is a cosy communal space that creates a sense of Danish Hygge, conceived in the spirit of warmth, friendliness and well-being.

“What defines a real Moxy is that when you enter the hotel, you immediately feel the vibe, because you are immediately greeted by happy people behind the bar. It’s also nice to feel almost immediately that you’re on the same wavelength as the other guests. That’s why we regularly organise events where everyone can feel that when they return to the hotel in the evening, it’s not worth being stuck in your room, because it’s much more exciting to enjoy time together in the lobby,” explains Kathrine Munch-Tranholm, Director of Moxy Copenhagen Sydhavnen. She is known as the ‘captain’ of the hotel, in keeping with the brand’s informal spirit.

This pleasant, never intrusive, “party on” atmosphere is always present in the hotel, where the rooms do not promise uniformed comfort. They create a maximum sense of comfort without being overly predictable. Just as a hearty breakfast at one of the many different types and shapes of tables in the lobby provides a pleasant basis for a coffee and a good morning’s work or a pleasant adventure in Copenhagen.

If only because the location of the hotel is perfect for exploring the city. Just a few minutes’ walk away is the S-train, which takes you to the heart of Copenhagen, the main train station next to Tivoli, in 10 minutes. From there you can explore all the attractions of this little gem of Scandinavia at a comfortable walking pace.
